Our Best Feature! Jane Bi-Sectional- Gus* Design Group

If you are a frequenter of City Life, it is highly likely that at some point you have stopped to admire a Gus* piece in our showroom. It's been a little over a year since we first started to carry Gus Design Group products and we're still loving it! Gus is a Canadian furniture company based out of Toronto that specializes in modern, clean lined, simple home furnishings. The concept of the company stemmed from a retail store that Gus* creator and designer David Podsiadlo owned and operated in Toronto called Style Garage. The store was quite successful so eventually David and his wife decided to create a furniture company that would reflect the classic contemporary styles that they and their customers loved. They got their start in 2000 when Podsiadlo came up with a contemporary line of furniture that was both beautiful and accessible. In August 2002 the company went stateside with their debut in the New York design and retail community. Soon after that, Gus* began making its way into showrooms across North America.

This month City Life is offering an exclusive special with Gus* for "Our Best Feature" December promotion featuring the Jane Bi-Sectional (pictured above). Any Jane Bi-Sectional purchased between now and December 31 will receive 20% off the total order! We have decided to promote the Jane because of it's versatility and ability to look great anywhere you put it. You can flip the cushions and move the ottoman to the other side of the sofa if you ever want to change which side the chaise is on. This thing is sexy! Not only has it been our best Gus* seller, but it is also one of our best sellers of any company here at City Life! Thomas Paul

Thomas Paul is a New Yorker, born and raised, who got his start in the fashion world as an intern for DKNY. After completing his degree in textile design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, he got a job with a textile mill as a colorist and designer in the mid 90's. He began designing mostly neckwear and scarves and worked on projects for designers such as Calvin Klein and DKNY. This lead to his own neckwear line that he launched in 1999 that was unfortunately short-lived. An opportunity arose in 2003 for Thomas to start designing his own line of textiles for the home. What began as a few pillows quickly turned into a booming business of items ranging from rugs to plates to tote-bags. On his website one can even order cut yardage of his custom fabrics.

With this wonderful rainy fall weather here, it's time to start getting our homes ready for the cooler temperatures. At this time of year it's easy for our minds to wander outside our daily work and school schedules and imagine ourselves cozy in bed with a book and cup of tea. At least I know I do! As we turn our attention to the best piece of furniture in the house (the bed), let's look at some changes we can make to get it Autumn and Winter ready!

Beautiful "Hedgerow" bedding by Dwell Studio shown in Saffron. Also available in persimmon. This is one of our most popular duvet sets and the fall colors would make it a perfect October addition to your bedroom.

Every piece is hand made in the rustic-modern style by one master craftsman and his apprentice using only American hard woods and local materials. Every piece is unique in that no two woods are the same and all would be a great addition to any modern, contemporary, or transitional home.
